The Anti-Corruption Commission has closed in on a cartel involved in the stealing of farm inputs under the Farmer Input Support Programme (FISP).
ACC Director General Tom Shamakamba says the commission is closing in on a case of a 29-year old man of Luanshya District on the Copperbelt arrested for being in possession of 51 by 50 kg bags of D compound fertilizer.
The fertiliser is believed to have been stolen.
Mr. Shamakamba stressed that the few cases reported of farm inputs discovered in people’s houses are linking some officials at the ministry to the same and ACC is closing on them.
Mr. Shamakamba says it is unfair that a well-intended program like FISP can be taken advantage of by selfish individuals who want to deprive many by involving themselves in corrupt activities.
Recently police in Luanshya recovered 51 bags of D compound fertilizer from 29year old Steward Mwansa of Kalala area in Mikofwa Township who could not give satisfactory answers on where he got the bags from.
