
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has arrested and charged two officials from the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries in connection with the alleged misappropriation of funds under the Sustainable Livestock Infrastructure Management Project (SLIMP), a project valued at about USD 10 million.
The suspects, identified as Director of Policy, Planning and Information Succeed Mubanga, 49, and Stores Officer Chanda Mulenga, 33, are accused of possessing and concealing properties suspected to be proceeds of crime, contrary to the Forfeiture of Proceeds of Crime Act No. 19 of 2010.
ACC Acting Head Corporate Communications Chilufya Chisanga says , Mr. Mubanga has been charged with two counts of Possession of Property Reasonably Suspected to be Proceeds of Crime and two counts of Concealment of Property.
The suspected proceeds, estimated at K11.1 million, include a motor vehicle, investment in Government bonds and a house believed to have been acquired using illicit funds.
Meanwhile, Ms. Mulenga has been charged with one count of Possession of Property Reasonably Suspected to be Proceeds of Crime and two counts of Concealment of Property, involving assets that include a modern house located in Kasama District.
ACC says the arrests bring the total number of suspects arrested in the SLIMP case to nine, as investigations continue into the alleged diversion of funds meant for national livestock infrastructure development.
Both suspects have since been released on bond and are expected to appear in court soon.
The Commission has also moved to restrict and seize several assets linked to the investigation, adding that more arrests are expected as the probe continues.
