Zambian international footballer Kelvin Kampamba is expected to return home on Friday, May 16, 2025, after the government arranged his evacuation from conflict-hit Libya.
Libya has recently experienced violent clashes between rival armed groups following the killing of a local militia leader. The fighting, centered in Tripoli, has so far claimed six lives.
Ministry of Youth, Sports and Arts spokesperson Nchimunya Ng’andu told Diamond Sports that Kampamba’s club, Al Madina SC, has released his passport to enable his safe return.
Ng’andu assured the public that Kampamba is safe and has been moved from Tripoli to a more secure area.
He has credited the evacuation to a joint effort between the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Arts and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
