NAKONDE POLICE RECORD ABOUT 70 PRISON BREAKS

.

About 70 individuals have escaped custody at Nakonde Police Cells around 17 hours.

Among the escapees include suspects, convicts, and remandees who were being held at the District’s main station.

Due to lack of a correctional facility individuals that have been convicted and those on trial are kept at the police station along with suspects while they await transportation to either Isoka or Chinsali correctional facilities.

Muchinga Province Police Commissioner Dennis Moola has confirmed the incident, saying the exact number of escapees is yet to be established.

Mr Moola says a manhunt has been launched to recapture the escapees, and police officers have been deployed across the district.
