FAMILY OF LATE MINER WHO DIED AFTER ACID SPILL AT CHINESE FIRM DEMANDS JUSTICE
The family of 25-year-old Dickson Nyoni, a miner who tragically lost his life after being exposed to acid at Rongxing Investment Limited, is demanding a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death. They are calling on relevant authorities to ensure that justice is served and that those responsible for the incident are held accountable.
Nyoni’s passing, which occurred two days ago, has left his family devastated and seeking answers. In an interview with Diamond News, his brother Leonard Nyoni expressed deep dissatisfaction with the company’s report on the incident, stating that it lacks clarity and raises more questions than answers. Due to these concerns, the family is urging government agencies, including the Mines Safety Department (MSD) and other regulatory bodies, to step in and conduct an independent and transparent investigation.
The miner’s father, Obby Wachishale, voiced his frustration over the lack of support from Rongxing Investment Limited, lamenting that the company has not provided any funeral assistance despite the tragic circumstances of his son’s death. He stressed that as an employer, the company had a duty to support the family during this difficult time and to take responsibility for what happened.
In response to the incident, the Mines Safety Department (MSD) has launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the fatal exposure and whether safety protocols were followed at the mining site. The department has assured the bereaved family that a comprehensive report will be made available once the inquiry is completed.
This incident has sparked concerns about workplace safety standards in Zambia’s mining sector, with labor rights advocates urging authorities to enforce stricter safety measures to prevent similar tragedies in the future. Workers and unions are now calling for improved oversight, particularly in companies handling hazardous materials, to ensure that employee safety is not compromised.
As the investigation unfolds, the Nyoni family remains hopeful that justice will be served and that their loved one’s death will not be in vain. They continue to call on authorities to act swiftly and transparently in uncovering the truth behind the fatal exposure that claimed Dickson Nyoni’s life.
