Mining Expert Edward Simukonda says there is a need for Mopani Copper Mine to start operating so that it raises money to pay off 1.5 billion dollars owed to Glencore.
Mr. Simukonda adds that taking the route of waiting for Value Added Tax (VAT) returns from the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) is a long cut that will only prolong financial challenges facing employees and suppliers.
He has urged the government to expedite engagement with Glencore to restore Mopani Copper Mine.
Meanwhile, President Hichilema in his second speech delivered during his National Assembly Address reaffirmed the government’s commitment to safeguarding the jobs of the employees at the mine.
