NTANDA WARD BY-ELECTION: SP AND UPND NOMINEES CONFIRMED

The Socialist Party (SP) and the United Party for National Development (UPND) have officially filed nominations for the Ntanda Ward by-election, set for February 6, 2025. The by-election comes in the wake of the tragic murder of the ward’s councillor, Adrian Chilubwa, in November 2024, leaving the position vacant.

Clinton Sankayi of the Socialist Party was the first to submit his nomination papers at 13:00 hours. Shortly after, at 14:00 hours, Gladys Kangumu of the UPND followed suit. Both candidates expressed their readiness to embark on campaigns centered on peace and addressing the pressing concerns of the residents of Ntanda Ward.

Notably, the New Congress Party opted out of the process, while the Leadership Movement failed to secure valid nominations despite two individuals arriving at the nomination center.

Mpongwe District Election Officer Mary Lapukani praised the smooth and orderly nomination process. She urged political parties to uphold decorum during the campaign period, emphasizing the need for peaceful and respectful electioneering.

The by-election promises to be a pivotal moment for Ntanda Ward as residents prepare to select a new representative to address local challenges and foster development.
