The Economic and Financial Crimes Court has forfeited Simoonga Farm, owned by former Defence Minister Stardy Mwale, to the State.
The farm, located in Chikakanta District of Southern Province, was seized following investigations by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) into its allegedly corrupt acquisition.
Speaking in Chikankhata District on Thursday, ACC Acting Director General Monica Mwansa stated that the forfeiture follows a thorough probe into Mr. Mwale’s purchase of the property.
She highlighted the Commission’s unwavering dedication to reclaiming assets obtained through illicit means and ensuring they are returned to the Zambian populace.
Captain Lastone Simasiku of the Zambia National Service (ZNS), who manages the farm, revealed that the property covers a vast 1,227 hectares.
He adds that the farm has been under joint supervision by the ACC and ZNS since its seizure in July 2022.
According to investigations, the farm was purchased for $2.5 million, funds suspected to be proceeds of crime.
Further investigations pointed to the origin of the funds, a $47 million contract awarded for the supply of goods to the Ministry of Defence.
