As Zambia works towards eliminating Malaria, the Tropical Diseases Research Centre (TDRC) has warned that imported cases, especially from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), could undermine progress.
With Malaria prevention measures less robust in the DRC, TDRC is urging authorities to tighten cross-border monitoring to protect Zambia’s health gains.
The call was made during a press briefing in Ndola, where TDRC also celebrated receiving a merit award from the National Science and Technology Council, marking the third such honor since 2018.
Dr. Gershom Chongwe, TDRC’s Director and CEO, highlighted the significance of the award, emphasizing the center’s ongoing commitment to advancing health solutions for Zambia.
In addition to its Malaria research, TDRC is addressing a broad range of health issues, including HIV/AIDS and childhood health, and is collaborating with the Ministries of Health and Education to investigate vaccination rates among children entering Grade 1
