Botswana’s President Mokgweetsi Masisi, leader of the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP), has pledged a seamless transition of power following his election loss to Umbrella for Democratic Change leader, Duma Boko.

In his address to the nation, Mr. Masisi has assured the public that he will cooperate fully with the incoming administration.

President Masisi says he is ready to meet with the president-elect to facilitate a smooth transition.

He has assured the nation that at no time will there be a hindrance on the outcome in order to preserve the constitution.

The president who appeared calm before crowded press briefing has also promised to contribute to building a strong country and will support the incoming government.

Masisi’s BDP has lost its 58 years grip on power after suffering losses from preliminary parliamentary results that show the opposition got the majority vote.
