Former Electoral Commission of Zambia Chairperson Emily Sikazwe has petitioned the Constitutional court over what she terms illegal termination of her contract as ECZ vice Chairperson.
In a petition before the Constitutional Court, Ms. Sikazwe says on 16th June 2020, she was appointed by former President Edgar Lungu to the position of Vice Chairperson of ECZ, and her appointment was ratified by Parliament on September 30, 2020.
She submits that her contract of employment dated 7th October 2020 was supposed to run from October 6, 2020, to October 5th, 2027.
Ms. Sikazwe wants an order that the decision by President Hakainde Hichilema to pre-maturely terminate the employment is null and void and an order that the president contravened articles 216 and article 242 of the Constitution chapter 1 of the laws of Zambia as read with section 5 (3) and 6(1) of act no.25 of 2016 as amended by Act no.5 of 2019 of the Electoral Commission Act.
