A violent assault in Lundazi District has resulted in the death of one teacher and left another fighting for her life. The tragic incident occurred on the night of Friday, September 4, 2024, around 22:00 hours at Bowe Turn-Off. Fred Musinda, a 31-year-old teacher from Kavikeke Primary School, was attacked by criminals while returning from a Teachers’ Day commemoration event. He was in the company of his colleague, Ethel Phiri, also 31, a teacher stationed at Mankhanka Primary School.
Both victims were ambushed while on their way home. Musinda, unfortunately, succumbed to the injuries sustained in the brutal attack, while Phiri survived and was immediately rushed to Lundazi District Hospital, where she remains in critical condition.
The Eastern Police High Command has launched an investigation into the incident, and efforts are underway to bring the perpetrators to justice. This heinous crime has left the community in shock, and local authorities are calling for heightened security measures to protect citizens from such violent crimes.
Teachers, community members, and education officials have expressed their grief and called for solidarity in support of the victims’ families during this difficult time.
