The Department of Immigration in Zambia has removed 263 illegal immigrants from its country in a mass removal exercise conducted on 7th September 2024.

Immigration Public Relations Officer Namati Nshinka says those removed include One Hundred and Ninety Eight Burundi nationals, Thirty Four Congolese, Sixteen Tanzanians, Twelve Rwandese and three Ugandans.

Mr. Nshika says the vast majority were apprehended on 4th September, 2024 during the joint clean-up operation conducted in various parts of Lusaka in which 357 were apprehended out of which 283 were detained for various immigration offences.

He says most of the suspects were ordinarily supposed to have been prosecuted but the Department decided to remove them from the country to help decongest the Correctional Facilities where they had been detained.
