A team of medical experts at the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) in Lusaka have successfully removed a 3-kilogram tumor from the face of 22-year-old Purity Maulu of Kabwe.

The first-stage surgery, which lasted two and a half hours, was carried out by a specialized team comprising of three surgeons, an anesthetist, and a scrub nurse.

The leading Surgeon, Dr. Felix Michelo, explained that the tumor was identified as a neurofibroma, a genetic condition present from birth that requires surgical intervention.

Following the operation, UTH Public Relations Officer Nzeba Chanda reported that Ms. Maulu, a mother of five, is in stable condition and receiving ongoing treatment.
