Bus and taxi drivers in Kabwe district are charging commuters more than the approved fares.

The drivers say the approved fares are too low and do not reflect the real cost of running a transport business, in view of the high cost of fuel.

The drivers have told Diamond News that this is to compensate for the loss being incurred on trips to town, because commuters can only afford the old fares.

Last week, the ERB announced new prices of petrol from K29.98 to K34.19, diesel moved to K32.15 from K29.96 while JET A-1 increased to K32.69 from K29.29.
