Ndola City Council officials escaped beating by an angry mob at Kapalala market when they attempted to stop illegal construction of shops.

Speaking before the meeting was disrupted, Ndola Mayor, Jones Kalyati, warned traders who are illegally constructing shops around the market to stop as they risk their structure being demolished.

Mr. Kalyati noted with concern that there are some cadres at the said market who are, allegedly, allocating land to the traders without the council’s approval.

In some video clips, supposedly, filmed by some group of men, they sternly warn the mayor against disrupting activities of Kapalala and accuse him of causing alleged trouble.

Ndola District Commissioner, Joseph Phiri, says a team of Zambia Police and Council workers will move in to demolish the illegal structures which have been constructed.
