Nine foreign suspects in the ongoing gold gate scandal have been charged with five counts of Smuggling and Corrupt Practices contrary to section 19 (2) and 41 of the Anti-Corruption Act No.3 of 2012.
The accused in this matter are Walid Botros, Mounir Awad, Mohamed Gooda, Yasser Abdeghafor, Michael Botros, Teunis Mooyi, Dela Cruz Castilla, Alisafi Ali and Noha Nadim.
In count one, it is alleged that five Egyptians corruptly offered gratification to public officers in order to induce them from diligently performing their duties.
Meanwhile, following Shadreck Kasanda’s accusations through his lawyers, State House has refused to be dragged into what it deems as malicious statements in the ongoing Goldgate Scandal.
Communications Specialist Clayson Hamasaka says the institution will not be drawn in the matter and will not comment on the matter as it may be subjudice to the ongoing investigations.
On Wednesday, the renowned businessman through his legal team, Makebi Zulu Advocates wrote to the Attorney General contesting his detention since he is a whistleblower and alleged that some well-known personnel at State House are supposed to be the ones behind bars.
