An 8-year-old boy of Matero East who was detained by police for assaulting another child aged twelve has been released from custody.

Zambia Police Spokesperson Rae Hamoonga has confirmed the release.

Mr. Hamoonga says the officers erred when they detained a child and punitive measures against the officers responsible will be taken administratively.

Mr. Hamoonga says the boy was found with sharp instruments which he used to injure the other child.

The child’s mother has confirmed the release, stating that the child is undergoing counselling.

The boy spent a night in detention after his parents, allegedly, failed to pay K1,000 for the boy’s release.
