A hyena has killed and eaten some body parts of a 10-year-old boy of Malowa village of Chief Mwanjawanthu in Petauke District of Eastern Province.
Leonard Banda was attacked by the beast while herding cattle with other children on Sunday afternoon.
Both Chieftainess Mwanjawanthu and police have confirmed the incident.
Eastern Province Commanding Officer Limpo Liywali says the deceased was herding cattle at the nearby plains in the company of four other juvenile friends when the hyena appeared and started chasing them.
Four of the five managed to reach the village and informed their parents who immediately followed and found the hyena had already killed Leonard.
He says in the process of retrieving the body from the beast, the deceased’s cousin, Laundasi Tembo was bitten on the right shoulder by the hyena.
The animal was later killed by wildlife officers.
