Suspected cases of typhoid have been reported in parts of Garden and Chipata Compounds in Zambia’s capital city, Lusaka.

One person’s sample sent to a private lab has presented a positive result, after the patient had not been attended to at Chipata General Hospital due to alleged lack of test kits.

The female patient says even after presenting positive results, the hospital did not give her medicine but instructed her to buy from private pharmacies.

Other people have also raised alarm over suspected cases of typhoid due to contamination of either water or food.

The Ministry of Health is yet to confirm reports of the suspected outbreak in the city.
