The Zambian government is yet to engage The Congolese Consular over the four Zambian youths who are detained at Pese’ border in that country.
The youths were arrested by Congolese soldiers manning the crossing point on Friday last week when they protested against rampant smuggling of mealie meal in the area.
The soldiers are asking for K13 thousand for each to be released.
According to residents, the four conducted the protest on the no man’s land but due to improper markings the Congolese authorities claimed that it was done on their land.
And Copperbelt Minister, Elisha Matambo says he will engage the Consular and Katanga Region Governor to ensure the release of the Zambian nationals.
