The Anti-Corruption Commission has frozen treasury bills and bonds held by 18 officials from the Ministry of Finance and Auditor General’s Office worth 31 million kwacha.

ACC Public Relations Manager, Timothy Moono, says the Commission has also restricted over 100 bank accounts belonging to Ministry of Finance officials.

Mr. Moono adds that Government lost over 3 million Kwacha between 2020 and 2021 in alleged abuse of office by Ministry of Finance officials who paid themselves allowances for fictitious activities.

Mr. Moono also revealed that 113 reports of suspected corruption were reported of which 110 contained elements of corruption and were authorized for investigations, while three were pending further action.

He further notes that 28 arrests were effected at the close of the quarter while 1, 343 cases of corruption were under investigation.

He was speaking during the Anti-Corruption Commission First Quarter Briefing held in Lusaka.
