Political Parties participating in the Katilye Ward by-election in Lupososhi District of Northern Province have described the campaign atmosphere as peaceful.
The political parties talked to by Diamond News that include Citizens First (CF), the Patriotic Font (PF) and the United Party for National Development (UPND) hope the peaceful atmosphere will continue until a representative is elected.
Meanwhile Socialist Party campaign team member Naomi Nanyangwe alleges that UPND officials have occupied the Headteacher’s house at Kalaba Primary School which is the totaling centre for the election.
She adds that this act might bring about confusion on the day of the election
Ms. Nanyangwe has since advised the UPND officials to vacate the said house.
But UPND campaign team member Elvis Nkandu who is also Kaputa Member of Parliament has rubbished such allegations labeling them as false and malicious.
Katilye ward goes to the polls following the death of incumbent PF councillor Sabastian Kaunda.
The candidates in the race for the vacant seat include Elvis Chali of CF, UPND’s Enerst Kasakula and Socialist Party’s Hendrix Lengwe.
Others are Nicholas Mule from ZMP, Isaac Mwansa from the PF and Flannel Nyimbi from LM.
