Economic Freedom Fighters President Mwenda Kasonde has been arrested and charged with unlawful assembly.

On Friday, Mr. Kasonde organised a demonstration denouncing the Ndola-Lusaka dual carriage way concession deal which led to the detention on 23 people.

However, Mr. Kasonde ran away upon reaching the police station.

Acting Police Spokesperson Danny Mwale says Mr. Kasonde availed himself at Lusaka Central Police on Sunday around 15 hours.

He is currently detained in Police custody and charged with the offence of unlawful assembly pending another charge of escape from lawful custody.

Meanwhile, the opposition has condemned the detention of 23 members of the Economic Freedom Fighters who were arrested for unlawful assembly.
