The Director of Public Prosecution has applied before the Economic Financial Crimes Court, for the state to forfeit $40 million dollars deposited in three accounts, belonging to former Konkola Copper Mines Provisional Liquidator, Milingo Lungu.
In an affidavit sworn by Moffat Chilonda, a Senior Investigation’s Officer at the Drug Enforcement Commission, the court has been informed that Lungu took advantage of his position as KCM liquidator and stole $40 million dollars belonging to KCM.
Mr. Chilonda discloses that in 2021, DEC received a report that Lungu opened three miscellaneous realization accounts, which he used to transfer the funds for personal use.
The DPP now wants an order for the three accounts alleged with tainted property, to be forfeited to the State, pursuant to Section 29 and 31 of the forfeiture of proceeds of Crime Act.
