Economist Watson Lumba says economic fundamentals such as the exchange rate and oil prices on the international market may warrant an upward adjustment of fuel pump prices for February, 2023.
Mr. Lumba says the kwacha has depreciated further from January revision, making it impossible for fuel prices to reduce.
The Energy Regulation Board is, on January 31, 2023, expected to announce new fuel pump prices for the month of February, 2023.
Meanwhile, Motorists spoken to expect fuel pump prices to reduce and have called on ERB to revert to quarterly fuel price review.
