Some pupils at Mauluzhi Primary School in Makunku Ward of Itezhi Tezhi District in Southern province have been left stranded following a heavy downpour that has left a stream flooded.
The pupils have to cross the stream when going to school but due to seasonal flooding, they are unable to do so.
The residents of the area are worried at the state of affairs and have called for intervention from the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unity (DMMU).
Itezhi Tezhi District Education Board Secretary Victor Longwani who confirmed the development to Diamond News in an interview says the area has experienced heavy rain recently thus affecting the movements of pupils to and from school.
Itezhi Tezhi Member of Parliament Twambo Mutinta says the district has never had any bridge constructed in the last ten years, making the situation difficult especially during the rain season.
