Government says it is not right for the University of Zambia Lecturers and other staff to give it an ultimatum over the settlement of their gratuities and pensions amounting to K600 million.

According to the Minister of Education, Douglas Siakalima this is because government is committed to settle the arrears.

On Monday November 7, 2022, the Lecturers represented by three unions namely, the University of Zambia Professional Staff Union – UNZAPROSU, University of Zambia Lecturers and Researchers Union – UNZALARU and University of Zambia and Allied Workers Union – UNZAAW held a press briefing where they said government had failed to settle K600 million in outstanding gratuities and pensions on time.
