Three illegal miners in Simalundu in Mapatizya Contituency in Southern Province have escaped death after part of Chilobe pit mine collapsed on them.
The three identified as Kenson Siabwizu aged 42 years, Joe Fwamba aged 41 years old and Brighton Simboombo aged 35 years of the same area have been left with severe injuries.
They are believed to have been illegally mining Tungsten and other minerals from the same pit when it collapsed on them.
The victims have since been admitted to Zimba Mission Hospital where they are receiving treatment.
And Mapatizya Member of Parliament Emeldah Munashabantu has confirmed the development to Diamond News and expressed sadness at the incident.
The law maker has called on government to legalise the operations at the said mine so that locals can start to benefit from its minerals.
Tungsten is commonly used in heavy metal alloys such as high speed steel from which cutting tools are manufactured.
