Cristiano Ronaldo has left the Portugal national team camp ahead of their UEFA Nations League game against Denmark on Thursday.
This comes after the 40-year-old Al-Nassr forward watched his side’s 2-1 UEFA Nations League victory over Norway played on Sunday, from the bench.
In a statement posted on X, Ronaldo said his decision follows the national team coach’s press conference and a conversation with the federation president.
He added that in due course, he will reveal the reasons for his departure.
Meanwhile, Portugal head coach Jorge Jesus defended his decision not to bring on Cristiano Ronaldo in the Norway clash, saying he needed a player with different characteristics.
Ronaldo is the all-time leading scorer in men’s international soccer with 146 goals and is pursuing the milestone of 1,000 career goals.
