A 29-year-old motorbike rider has died in Chisamba District after he was allegedly attacked and robbed of his motorbike and mobile phone by a customer he had picked up.
Central Province Commissioner of Police Lemekani Chirwa says the victim, identified as Trust Mwiinga of Ndailala Village, was attacked after taking a customer from Daka Mine to Chipwende area on September 25.
Mr. Chirwa says the incident happened between 20:00 hours on September 25 and 02:00 hours the following day.
He says Mwiinga’s elder brother became concerned after failing to reach him by phone, before the family was later informed that he had been found in critical condition and referred to Liteta Hospital.
Mr. Chirwa says Mwiinga had earlier told medical personnel that he had been attacked by the customer, who allegedly stole his motorbike and mobile phone.
He says Mwiinga sustained multiple cuts and swellings to the head and later died around 12:45 hours while receiving treatment.
Mr. Chirwa says the body has been deposited at Liteta Hospital mortuary, awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Police have opened a docket of aggravated robbery and murder, and investigations are ongoing.
