A 31-year-old taxi driver has been found dead with a gunshot wound to the head inside a Toyota Runx near the School of Law at the University of Zambia in Lusaka.
The Zambia Police Service says the suspected murder is believed to have occurred between the early hours of Thursday, September 24, and 07:30 hours.
Police spokesperson Godfrey Chilabi says the matter was reported around 12:00 hours at Handsworth Police Post under Chelstone Police Station by UNZA security personnel, who found the man unresponsive in the driver’s seat of the vehicle, registration number CAG 2255.
The deceased has been identified by his wife as Able Mwape, who was reportedly a taxi driver from Garden Chilulu.
Mwape is said to have left home around 22:00 hours on Wednesday, September 23, to go to work.
Police say the owner of the vehicle has confirmed that Mwape was employed as a taxi driver.
The scene was processed by police, while the body was deposited at the University Teaching Hospital mortuary for postmortem.
Police have since launched investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the suspected murder.
