MUNDUBILE, MAKEBI CHARGED WITH SEDITION OVER SOCIAL MEDIA POSTS

.

2026 National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity – NRPUP – Presidential candidate Brian Mundubile and his running mate Makebi Zulu have been slapped with additional charges of sedition.

According to their lawyer, Leon Lemba, the two were on Friday taken from Mukobeko Maximum Correctional Facility to Kabwe Central Police Station by officers from Crime One, where the new charges were formally communicated to them.

Mr. Lemba says Mr. Mundubile’s charge relates to a Facebook post made during the August 13 general election in which he cited the party’s Parallel Vote Tabulation results showing NRPUP in the lead and called on the Electoral Commission of Zambia – ECZ – to resume vote counting after the process had reportedly been suspended for nearly six hours.

He says Mr. Zulu’s charge stems from a separate social media post in which he informed supporters that Mr. Mundubile would address the nation and ask them to remain on standby.

Mr. Lemba says the State considers the two posts to amount to seditious practices.

The lawyer says the two have since been returned to Mukobeko Maximum Correctional Facility.

Mr. Mundubile and Mr. Zulu were arrested on August 27 and are among the 18 already facing a treason charge linked to allegations of involvement in militia activities.
