ENOCK TONGA’S WIFE SEEKS COURT ORDER TO FREE HUSBAND

.

Peggy Sakala Tonga has gone to the Lusaka High Court seeking a writ of habeas corpus to secure the release of her husband, Enock Tonga, who has been in police custody since August 17, 2026.

Mrs. Tonga has named the Attorney General as the respondent in the matter and she says her husband was initially apprehended at Manda Hill Police Post for conduct likely to cause a breach of peace before being taken to Zambia Police Headquarters and later detained at Kabwata Police Station.

She says he was formally arrested on August 21 for sedition, but has not appeared before any court to answer the charge.

Through the application, Mrs. Tonga wants the High Court to examine the continued detention and order her husband’s release, arguing that the offence is bondable and that four sureties have already executed police bond on his behalf.

She further contends that his continued detention is unjustified, unlawful and unconstitutional.

This comes a day after Diamond Tv did a story on the continued detention of Mr. Tonga at Kabwata Police.
