Residents of Mweemba Chiefdom in Sinazongwe District Southern Province, that were relocated to pave way for the operations of SEZIC Coal Mine, have cried foul after mine allegedly breached an agreement to provide social amenities to the community.
Some contents of the agreement that included the construction of a hospital, a school and drilling of five boreholes have not been done.
Sinazongwe Member of Parliament Gift Sialubalo has equally echoed his displeasure by the company’s failure to honor the terms of the agreement.
But when contacted for a comment SEZIC Coal Mine Country Director, Davies Musongo, says delay to meet the needs of the displaced residents are due to an incident were contracted workers were chased by irate members of the community.
Mr. Musongo adds that his company is aware of the situation and its plan is to commence projects in phases if only they can do without intrusion.
