
A Chipata man of Mthilasembe Township has been stabbed to death by his Malawian ex-wife following a violent marital dispute in Mthilamsembe Township of Chipata District.
The incident occurred on Friday, June 19, 2026 around 16:00 hours when Kangwa Mumbi visited his estranged wife, Agness Zulu, at her residence.
Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer Robertson Mweemba has confirmed to Diamond News that the couple which were on separation, reportedly engaged in a heated misunderstanding that quickly escalated into a physical fight.
The altercation turned deadly when the deceased first stabbed his ex-wife with a knife on her spine. Despite collapsing from the wound, the wife managed to wrestle the knife from her attacker and retaliated, plunging the weapon into husband’s upper left chest.
Police officers who rushed to the scene discovered the lifeless body of the deceased lying face down in a pool of blood, approximately six meters from the suspect’s house.
Upon inspection, a single deep cut wound was observed on the left side of his chest with blood covering his entire body.
The murder weapon has been recovered by investigators.
The suspect was quickly transported to a local medical facility before being referred to Chipata Central Hospital, where she remains admitted in stable condition under police guard.
Meanwhile, the body of the deceased has been deposited in the Chipata Central Hospital Mortuary, awaiting a postmortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
