A fatal railway incident involving a runaway coal wagon has claimed the lives of two people in Kafue.
According to Police and the Zambia railways Limited a Goods Train No. 526 experienced an accidental wagon separation at around 09:30 hours on June 20, 2026, along the Chipongwe Lilayi section.
The detached coal wagon continued moving uncontrolled towards Kafue before eventually stopping between Kafue and Nega-Nega.
The runaway wagon struck two pedestrians near Kafue Bridge, killing them on the spot ,the victims have been identified as 32 year old Queeniva Musonda of Lumumba Compound and 58 year old Dyson Simpamba of Kafue.
The bodies were taken to Kafue General Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem examinations as Investigations into the incident have been launched.
