Police in Chipata have sealed Mpezeni Park Square, where the National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity (NRPUP) President Mundubile was expected to hold a rally this afternoon.
After the party’s engagements with police on the ground, Chipata District NRPUP Chairman Menyani Zulu informed supporters that the rally has been canceled by the police.
Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer Robertson Mweemba has confirmed that police sealed area to enforce ECZ guidance that Presidential Candidates have to have a meeting in Lusaka and come up with their electoral timetable.
He says the Police were merely enforcing the directives and maintain law and order at the area.
However, on Thursday, 19th June 2026, the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) gave presidential candidates until Friday to hold rallies and to have a meeting on Monday to come up with a presidential electoral timetable.
