ECZ MOVES TO REGULATE PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGNS, ANNOUNCES OFFICIAL TIMETABLE FRAMEWORK

.

The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has announced plans to introduce an official Presidential Campaign Timetable aimed at bringing order, fairness and effective coordination to campaign activities ahead of the August 2026 General Election.

Chief Electoral Officer Brown Kasaro says it has observed with concern the uncoordinated manner in which presidential candidates have been conducting campaign programmes across the country, a situation that has the potential to create conflicts among political parties and undermine the orderly management of the electoral process.

ECZ has therefore allowed all presidential candidates to proceed with their already scheduled campaign activities up to Friday, June 19, 2026.

Thereafter, campaigns will be conducted strictly according to a Presidential Campaign Timetable that will be developed and administered by the Commission.

To facilitate the process, ECZ will convene a meeting with all fourteen presidential candidates on June 22, 2026, where the timetable will be discussed and agreed upon before taking effect for the remainder of the campaign period.

.

The Commission says the initiative is intended to safeguard order, fairness and the integrity of the electoral process and has called on all political parties and candidates to fully cooperate with the new arrangement.
