A one day old baby has been rescued from a pit latrine in Chikoli Village of Kalomo District in Southern Province by officers from the Fire Brigade.
According to sources, the baby was discovered by a passer-by who had gone to answer a call of nature and heard a baby crying from the pit latrine.
Fire Brigade officers responded to the scene and successfully rescued the infant, who had reportedly been wrapped in a plastic bag. The baby was later rushed to the hospital for medical attention.
Police and health authorities are yet to issue an official statement regarding the matter.
