Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) has announced that it will begin impounding on sight all suspended motor vehicles and trailers with outstanding traffic offences as part of an intensified enforcement exercise.
In a statement issued today, RTSA said more than 36,000 motor vehicles and trailers are currently suspended on its system due to various unresolved traffic violations.
The agency has stated that the move forms part of its enhanced enforcement strategy, which includes the deployment of an expanded patrol fleet and the use of a smart enforcement ticketing system aimed at improving compliance with road traffic regulations.
RTSA has urged motorists to check the status of their vehicles through the “Traffic Violations” section on its website and verify whether their vehicles have been suspended.
The agency has warned that vehicle owners with pending traffic offences should immediately settle the outstanding penalties as the enforcement exercise takes effect immediately.
RTSA has further called on motorists and other road users to comply with traffic laws and regulations, emphasizing the need to promote a culture of road safety across the country.
