The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) says presidential candidates who paid nomination fees and had their 1,000 supporters preprocessed under one political party, but later decide to contest under another party, will be required to undergo a fresh preprocessing exercise.
Speaking in response to a query from Diamond News, ECZ Chairperson Mwangala Zaloumis said the supporters initially preprocessed were tied to the original candidate and party.
Ms. Zaloumis said although the process may prolong electoral procedures, affected candidates will still be allowed to present all 1,000 supporters during the nomination period.
Meanwhile, the Commission has also revised the nomination dates for parliamentary and local government candidates.
