TORCH RELAY LIGHTS UP KK MALL AHEAD OF KENNETH KAUNDA DAY MARATHON

.

A torch relay has be held at Embassy Park in Lusaka as part of the build-up to the Kenneth Kaunda Day Marathon, with 20 athletes each carrying the flame for about 100 metres before passing it on.

The relay started at the resting place of Zambia’s founding father and ended at the KK where the final torchbearer lit a fire that will burn until the close of celebrations the following day.

The relay symbolised Kenneth Kaunda’s belief that the burden of leadership and the light of liberty must be shared. It also served as a reminder of Zambia’s identity as a peace loving nation founded on the motto, One Zambia, One Nation.

Five years after his passing, the values Kaunda championed self-reliance, love for one’s neighbour, and national pride remain alive.

The event is organised by Big Tree, Trade kings with Stanbic Bank and Proffesional Insurance.
