The Zambia Public Procurement Authority (ZPPA) says it has reviewed 20 contract termination reports in the first quarter of 2026.
Speaking during a media briefing in Lusaka Wednesday, ZPPA Director General Gloria Ngoma says the terminations were mainly due to non-performance or abandonment of works by contractors.
Ms. Ngoma has also cited failure by contractors to execute works despite receiving advance payments, as well as prolonged delays beyond contractually allowable periods.
She says the Authority will implement capacity-building interventions among procuring entities to strengthen compliance in the cancellation of procurement proceedings and contract terminations.
She added that ZPPA will intensify enforcement actions in cases of repeated non-compliance, in line with the law.
Meanwhile, Ms. Ngoma has noted that the Authority is closely monitoring the newly introduced school feeding programme to ensure that public resources are used effectively.
She has emphasized that all public procurement must be conducted through the government’s electronic Government Procurement (e-GP) system, stressing that the school feeding programme is not exempt from this requirement.
