ZAMBIA PUSHES REGIONAL TRADE THROUGH AfCFTA AND VISA-FREE POLICY

.

Zambia says it is strengthening regional integration and trade cooperation under the African Continental Free Trade Area through expanded visa-free agreements with several African countries.

According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Commerce, Trade and Industry, the move is in line with the African Union Agenda 2063, which aims to promote a more united and economically integrated Africa.

Principal Public Relations Officer Everness Nankala says removing visa requirements will promote the free movement of businesspersons, tourists and professionals, helping to boost intra-African trade, investment and knowledge exchange.

Ms Nankala says the Ministry has also introduced trade facilitation measures including mandatory pre-clearance systems, automation of entry and exit gates and the Authorised Economic Operators Programme to speed up clearance of goods at borders.

She adds that the number of agencies operating at border posts has been reduced from about 18 to six, with infrastructure upgrades completed at Kazungula and Mwami, while works continue at Chirundu, Kasumbalesa, Sakania, Mokambo and Nakonde to improve trade efficiency.
