UNIP BACKS HAKAINDE HICHILEMA FOR PRESIDENCY IN AUGUST GENERAL ELECTIONS

.

Former President of the United National Independence Party (UNIP), Colonel Henry Muyoba, says the party will not contest at the presidential level.

In an interview with Diamond News, Muyoba said it is their mandate as a party to endorse the UPND at the presidential level but to contest in all other categories.

Muyoba said that UPND already aligns with the policies that Kenneth Kaunda, the founder of UNIP, governed Zambia by during independence in 1964.

He added that supporting continuity means ensuring that policies which serve the Zambian people—such as the introduction of meal allowances in schools and free education, among others—are upheld. These are policies that President Hakainde Hichilema himself benefited from while growing up.
