WOMAN JAILED 7 DAYS FOR FILMING IN COURT

.

The Lusaka Magistrates’ Court has sentenced 31-year-old Natasha Msoni to seven days simple imprisonment after finding her guilty of contempt of court for recording proceedings during an active session.

Msoni was apprehended while attending a court hearing involving Pasmore Mwiinga, who is facing charges of theft of a motor vehicle.

The court heard that she was seen using her phone to capture proceedings while the accused was in the dock, an act that violates court rules governing conduct during hearings.

Delivering his ruling, Magistrate Paul Namakando emphasized the need for the public to understand and respect courtroom procedures before attending proceedings.

He noted that such behavior undermines the authority and dignity of the court.

The court further warned that failure to adhere to established rules disrupts the administration of justice and cannot be tolerated.

Magistrate Namakando stated that there has been a growing trend of individuals disregarding courtroom decorum.

He said the custodial sentence was necessary to send a strong message and act as a deterrent to would-be offenders, adding that respect for the court must be upheld at all times.
