HH ORDERS URGENT ACTION ON UNIVERSITY SANITATION

President Hakainde Hichilema has directed the Ministries of Education, Health, Infrastructure, and Water Development and Sanitation to urgently review sanitation facilities at the University of Zambia and across all public universities and colleges, and to present immediate, actionable solutions.

The President has also instructed the ministries to collaborate with the Zambia National Service to fast-track interventions.

According to a statement issued by State House House Chief Communications Specialist Clayson Hamasaka, the directive was made during an emergency meeting held this afternoon, Tuesday, March 31, 2026, with key government ministries and University of Zambia management to address sanitation challenges in public higher learning institutions.

Mr Hamasaka added that the President further directed the Ministry of Education and University of Zambia management to resolve long-standing issues affecting lecturers and other academic staff.

He said President Hichilema reiterated that education is an investment, an equaliser, and a national inheritance that every citizen deserves, stressing that sanitation is not secondary but central to health, well-being, and human dignity.
