
A man of Lusaka’s Chainda area has allegedly died in police custody following his arrest for being found with a pair of trousers suspected to have been stolen, which he reportedly bought from a passerby.
The deceased, Moses Nyirenda, died on Sunday, March 22, 2026.
In an interview with Diamond News, his mother, Ruth Nyirenda, confirmed the development, stating that her son was in good health prior to his death.
She said officers at Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe Police Station informed her of her son’s death but have not yet disclosed where his body has been taken.
Police have not yet issued a comprehensive statement on the matter. Meanwhile, the family is holding a funeral in Chainda Compound.
