ABOUT 1,500 CANCER-RELATED DEATHS RECORDED ANNUALLY

Health Minister Alex Katatwe says over 1,500 cancer-related deaths are recorded annually, with over 3,000 new cancer cases recorded each year.

Speaking during the Bikers Association of Zambia fundraising event to support the Cancer Disease Hospital, Mr. Katatwe says government is aiming to construct cancer hospitals in all provinces, with ongoing construction in the Copperbelt now exceeding 80 percent.

He adds that interventions from stakeholders will help in running the hospitals and prevent cancer-related deaths.

And Lusaka Bikers Club President Horace Hepplethwaite says various bikers from Lusaka Bikers Club, Unity Bikers, Bikers n Bikes, 313 Racing, OCC Adventure Club and individual bikers have raised over K70,000 to support the operations of the Cancer Diseases Hospital children’s ward.

Mr. Hepplethwaite says the fundraising has come following notable challenges faced by children battling cancer at the hospital, with the aim to provide necessary equipment and supplies for the children.

He further says funds have been received from bikers and fans across the country in monetary form and assorted biking items, which have been auctioned to different bikers.
